There is a ‘allot’ that can be done
Councillors visit Forgewood allotments
Motherwell West Councillors Paul Kelly and Meghan Gallacher have pledged to do all they can to support the Greenlink Allotment in Forgewood.
Following a visit last week they are planning to organise a meeting to see what further support can be given to the facility.
The Greenlink Allotment Group are also looking for some support to make sure the allotments can continue to thrive.
Councillor Kelly said: “The Greenlink Allotments in Forgewood are a brilliant greenspace. Not only do the local community use the facility but also other community groups and charities.
“It was great to see firsthand the excellent work the Greenlink Allotment Group has done in driving forward the allotments.
“I am now keen to organise a meeting to see what further support can be given.”
Councillor Gallacher added: “I was thoroughly impressed with the work being carried out at Greenlink Allotments in Forgewood.
“It is a brilliant area where the local community, groups and organisations can grow fresh, organic fruit and vegetables and enjoy the experience of growing their own produce.
“Supporting projects such as this is vital for our communities and I pledge my support to ensure it thrives. I look forward to working with other councillors to achieve this.“
John Murray of the Greenlink Allotment team said: “Greenlink Allotments have been open since 2013 supported by North Lanarkshire Council and other key partners. In that time we’ve come to become a wellloved part of the community enabling Forgewood and North Lanarkshire residents to grow their own fruit, vegetables and flowers.
“It’s been stunning to watch and although everyone has different levels of gardening expertise, everyone is more than willing to help each other achieve their plans.
“People interested in growing their own fruit, vegetables and flowers can add themselves to the Greenlink Allotment waiting list by contacting us via our website at greenlinkalot.com.”
