Rovers won 4-2 on penalties

Rakish Bingham scored his first goal of the season at Albion Rovers on Tuesday, but says it counts for nothing after Hamilton crashed to a shoot-out defeat.

In a shocking performance from Martin Canning’s men they came back from a goal down and three times took the lead, only to be pegged back each time.

Rovers then went on to win the shootout 4-2 to take the bonus point, scoring all of their penalties, with keeper Graham Bowman saving from Massimo Donati and Greg Docherty.

The result leaves Hamilton needing to win at home to Stenhousemuir on Saturday if they are to progress from Group G.

Bingham scored from a penalty seven minutes after climbing off the bench, but said it’s not one he will remember fondly.

He said: “I’m obviously disappointed with the result, everyone is. It would have meant a lot more if my goal had counted towards a win, but we have to dust ourselves off and go again on Saturday.

“We’ve put ourselves in the position on Saturday now where if we want to top the group we have to win now.

“Nothing changes, we go into every game wanting to win, but unfortunately we weren’t able to on Tuesday.

“This is a huge season for us, we need to hit the ground running and go into the season nice and positive, bounce back off this defeat, and take that forward.”

Hamilton made nine changes from the shoot-out win over Queen of the South,
