Youth faces catalogue of charges

A Lanarkshir­e teenager has denied running across railway lines at Hamilton Central.

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is alleged to have trespassed at the train station last month.

He pleaded not guilty at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday.

A Lanarkshir­e youth is accused of repeatedly running across railway lines at Hamilton Central railway station.

The teenager, aged between 15 and 18, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is alleged to have trespassed on Network Rail land at the station on June 19 this year.

He denied being dangerousl­y close to railway lines by repeatedly running across them between platforms to his potential danger and that of others.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, the teenager pleaded not guilty to a charge contrary to the British Transport Commission Act 1949. He further denied two charges of wilfully destroying property – one by kicking a bicycle and damaging it at Hamilton Bus Station on June 12, and the other by kicking a door at an address in the town and damaging it on the same date.

Not guilty pleas to three charges of stealing booze from the Co-op in Larkhall’s Union Street on two occasions in June this year and from Tesco in Bellshill on June 20 were also tendered.

The teenager is further alleged to have behaved in a threatenin­g and abusive manner at Tesco in Bellshill on that date by shouting, swearing, uttering threats of violence and struggling with employees there, repeatedly striking his head against the ground and struggling with police officers, as well as assaulting two officers – one of whom he is said to have kicked on the body and the other by attempting to headbutt him on the head. He also denied these charges.

A charge of behaving in a threatenin­g and abusive manner by shouting, swearing, uttering offensive remarks, and struggling with police officers in a Larkhall street last Friday, July 28, was also denied by the accused.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court on Monday, Sheriff Ray Small set the trial for September 28 with an intermedia­te diet of September 4.

Bail was granted to a Larkhall address meantime with the condition the teenager remain there between the hours of 7pm to 7am seven days per week.
