Macmillan staff want to raise £30k in 30th year

- Leona Greenan

There will be celebrations galore next week as the Hamilton fundraising committee of Macmillan Cancer Support mark their 30-year anniversary.

And as well as a celebration lunch event to mark the milestone, the committee have set themselves the challenge of raising a whopping £30,000 for their 30th year with the help of the people of Hamilton.

All money raised by the group is used to support people and their families in Lanarkshire, living with, or beyond, cancer.

The Hamilton Fundraising Group were established in 1988 and have raised around £550,000 since then.

A number of the founding members remain on the group and have been joined over the years by members who have an interest in the work of Macmillan Cancer Support.

A number of the group’s members have also had first- hand experience of the fabulous work the nursing team does and the emotional support Macmillan provide, whether themselves or via a family member, friend or colleague.

All have one thing in common, they are passionate about raising the community’s awareness of Macmillan and about making as much money to support the charity.

Kamie Kilty, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support Lanarkshire, said: “This year marks the 30th anniversary and therefore we have a celebration lunch at The Alona Hotel, Strathclyde Park, Motherwell on Friday, August 11.

“Our aim this year is to raise a phenomenal £30,000.

“The Hamilton group have a very busy calendar of fundraising events for 2017 and we would be delighted to hear from anyone willing to spare a few hours, two or three times in the year.

“If interested, contact Joan Mccallum on 01698 427173.”
