Town trail app gets 76,500 downloads

Bringing a smile to youngsters’ faces

- Leona Greenan

Over 76,500 people have downloaded The BIG Stampede app since the trail launched in June.

The massive art trail that features 30 life-size safari animals has been putting smiles on faces all summer and has attracted visitors from across the UK to Hamilton town centre.

Thousands of youngsters have also taken part in the trail with 80 primary schools and nurseries from across Lanarkshire taking part in an educational initiative which involved designing a baby hippo.

And they are also dotted around town on the art trail, next to the giant rhinos, lions, gorillas and giraffes.

Gareth Walker, BID Manager at Hamilton Business Improvement District (BID), said: “The trail has been a huge success with safari spectators turning out come rain or shine in search of their favourite animal. Our animal app has had over 76,500 sculpture downloads to date which is fantastic.

“We would like to thank everyone for their support so far and would encourage anyone who hasn’t already visited the trail to come and pay us a visit. It’s fantastic to see people from different walks of life getting involved, sharing their safari selfies and most importantly having fun.”

While The BIG Stampede has been bringing smiles to the faces of those visiting Hamilton town centre this summer it is also raising valuable funds for a great cause.

At the end of the 10-week art project, the sculptures will be auctioned off to raise valuable funds for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.

And that money will help to support the 168,000 babies, children and young people treated at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow every year – thousands of whom are from Lanarkshire.

Gareth added: “The safari animals will be in town for another month before making their important journey to auction with proceeds going towards Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity. We will be sad to see them go but look forward to raising valuable funds for such a worthwhile cause.”

The trail will be live until September 3.
