keeping with the quiet residential area.

Objectors are to attend the next meeting of Bothwell Community Council at St Bride’s Pastoral Centre on Tuesday, August 15, at 7.30pm.

Old Bothwell Road resident and opponent of the demolition plan John Rae told the Advertiser: “We will present our petition at this meeting. It’s an opportunity to let the community council know how people feel about this issue.”

The plans for the care home at the 1 Hamilton Road and 10 Old Bothwell Road site in the conservation area have been submitted by Balmer Developments.

Balmer Care Homes currently run the Croftbank House and Rosepark care homes in Uddingston.

Balmer Care Homes bought the proposed development site, formerly occupied by the Harte Construction Group, in December 2015 after it had been on the market for a couple of months, according to a document lodged by the applicant.

They also pointed out, in a supporting statement, “there are no material considerations which outweigh the positive planning policy position in relation to this proposed development in this proposed location”.

They also stated that conservation consent to demolish the neighbouring 10 Old Bothwell Road bungalow was granted in 2015.

Bothwell Community Council secretary Jeanette Mcguire told the Advertiser this week: “We are aware of the strength of feeling in the community, particularly specific to concerns regarding conservation, scale, and traffic, which have been comprehensively set out in the comments lodged to date.

“BCC trust that South Lanarkshire Council will carefully consider all the issues raised when making its decision.”
