Friendly action as clubs pick up pace

Danny Burns scored five goals and set up two others as Shotts Bon Accord won the Peter Lynch Memorial Trophy.

Shotts followed up a 5-2 midweek win over Harthill by beating Fauldhouse 4-2 on Saturday to earn the silverware.

Burns provided a telling touch to set up Ally Martin and new signing Steve Aitken then notched a second, before Burns scored twice to give Shotts a 4-0 half-time lead.

Harthill, on their return to junior football, pulled a goal back in 51 minutes, but Burns went on to clinch his hat-trick in 84 minutes from a Gavin Mcpherson pass.

The visitors missed a penalty, but then pulled a goal back.

Aitken opened the scoring at Fauldhouse before Burns hit a double, and Mcpherson scored the fourth.

Wishaw fought back from 3-1 down to beat Fauldhouse United 4-3 in a midweek friendly at Beltane Park which raised £230 for the Lanarkshir­e Cancer Care Fund.

Scorers were Mark Duffy, Scott Falconer, Vinnie Mcgeogh.

On Saturday they lost 4-2 away to Newtongran­ge Star, where they conceded twice in the last five minutes.

Scorers were Mcgeogh, and Ryan Smillie from the penalty spot.

Assistant boss Glen Watt said: “Wednesday was a good win with the Mcguire and Paul opportunit­y to play a large number of the squad and some trialists.

“On Saturday we only had three subs, but it was a useful exercise.”

On Monday night Wishaw were home to Sauchie, but lost 2-0.

Blantyre Vics beat amateur side RGM 1-0 in midweek, with Declan Brown scoring. at

Boss John Gibson said: “We played a few trialists, which made it a worth while exercise.

“We’ve signed 14 players, but I’m still looking to add a couple more to the squad.”

Paul Brennan, Ritchie Kane and Dillon Bradley scored as Bellshill lost 5-3 to Rossvale in midweek.

On Saturday they fought back to draw 1-1 in their annual pre-season contest with Downfield, with Bradley on target around the 70th minute.

Lanark United lost 4-0 at Blackburn on Saturday, with manager John Gibson saying: “They’re a good team and we played quite well, as we built up our fitness for the opening League Cup tie against Larkhall Thistle.”

Carluke Rovers were 5-0 down at Kello Rovers before scoring late goals through Ian Watt and Chris Lambie.

Thorniewoo­d beat Ardeer Thistle on Saturday, with Chris Jackson netting both goals.

Kris Jarvie grabbed a double for Forth Wanderers as they beat Bathgate 2-0.

Jarvie scored in 70 and 83 minutes, with Bathgate missing a penalty in 75 minutes.
