Notorious, Gazza & host of boxers Promoter Francis Gilluley nabs top names
Boxing promoter Francis Gilluley has lined up appearances by a host of superstars, including Irish MMA star Conor Mcgregor, two-time world heavyweight Tim Witherspoon and football star Paul Gascoigne.
Over 3000 tickets for an evening with Conor Mcgregor at the SEC Armadillo on September 29 sold out in two hours, an appearance from Paul Gascoigne at Glasgow Pavilion on October 6 sold out in five days, and a new date on October 5 for Gazza went on sale on Monday.
American megastar Tim Witherspoon will be the special guest at Fight Night XV at the Alona Hotel in Motherwell on September 2, alongside Joe Egan, an accomplished Irish boxer who was Mike Tyson’s sparring partner in New York.
The evening, organised by FSG Promotions and Goldstar Promotions, will raise money for the Fighting Scots Gym in Bellshill which Francis runs, and also St Andrew’s Hospice in Airdrie.
There is an eight-fight card for Fight Night XV, including Hamilton’s Kevin Duris, Abie Tweedlie from Lesmahagow, Viewpark’s Ray Kelly and Steven Mcghee from Bellshill.
Tweedlie will be going for a Celtic title on the night, with Duris topping the bill, and rare memorabilia will be up for auction.
It’s just the latest in a long line of successes for Francis, and the gym is doing well.
He said: “The evening will be great for everybody who attends it. We run these evenings to raise money for the gym, but also for various charities.
“St Andrew’s Hospice is one that everybody can relate to, and it is a great cause.
“It will be a great evening, and Tim Witherspoon and Joe Egan will be a great addition to the Fight Night.
“They’re great with the public, will talk to people at their tables and have a laugh, and it’s a real coup to get these guys.
“Tim was WBC champion in 1984 and WBA in 1986, and Joe Egan was Mike Tyson’s sparring partner.”
Francis added: “Conor Mcgregor is the hottest person in sport and selling over 3000 tickets hours speaks for itself.
“I’ve been trying to get him for two years and it has just worked out this time.”
