Steven Boyd grabbed his second goal of the season with a deft header against Stenhousemuir and hopes it earns him a crack at Aberdeen on Sunday.

Boyd headed in Danny Redmond’s chipped pass in 74 minutes to put the game beyond their League Two opponents at 3-0, top the Betfred Cup Group G and earn a last-16 date with Aberdeen at the Superseal Stadium next Wednesday.

He said: “Both of my goals were here and in the same goal. I tried to read the cross, I thought the keeper was going to come out and I just flicked it in front of him, so it was a good finish.

“It was a good comfortable win, it was good to win the group and go through.

“The real games start at Aberdeen on Sunday. It will be a lot tougher, the games will be really different because we’ve been controlling the ball in the Betfred Cup games and next week we won’t be doing that as much, so it will be a lot harder.

“It would be good to start on Sunday – whenever I’ve played I’ve just tried to take my chance as much as I can, that’s all I can do.

“I’ve set myself a target of five league goals, so we’ll see if I can get that or not.”

Hamilton boss Martin Canning made eight changes to the side that drew at Albion Rovers on Tuesday, with Gary Woods, Xavier Tomas, Scott Mcmann, Darian Mackinnon, Grant Gillespie, Ali Crawford, David Templeton and Rakish Bingham starting in place of Ryan Fulton, Alex Gogic, Massimo
