Sparkling results at Grammar

School looking forward to celebrating at prize-giving

- Leona Greenan

Pupils at Hamilton Grammar posted a sparkling set of achievements in their exam results.

Significant improvements were recorded for S4, S5 and S6 in National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher courses.

The proportion of S4 students gaining three, four or five plus National 5 awards all showed an increase from last year.

And the number of fifth-year pupils gaining three or more Highers went up by four per cent.

Of particular note was the performance of S6 leavers who increased pass rates for N5, Higher and Advanced Higher, showing that students of all abilities were making improvements.

Attainment in Advanced Highers increased by seven per cent for students gaining at least one award, with those getting two or more two Advanced Highers increasing by six per cent.

Head teacher Graeme Sives spoke of his pride at how pupils had performed.

He said: “We all know schools are about more than just exam results, but they are very important and I would like to salute the collective effort made by our young people, their families and our staff to reach this milestone. It has been a very good year in that respect.

“We have 37 individuals who scored at least five A grades for their Nationals and a dozen who did the same for Higher. We are proud of all of our young people who committed themselves to the task and I hope they can look back and feel proud of their efforts.

“We look forward to celebrating all of our successes at our prize-giving next month, but I would make particular reference to our outgoing S6 who were such a positive presence and who have performed with such distinction at every level. I would note especially those candidates who achieved three Advanced Higher passes, which takes some doing.

“Hats off to brothers Alasdair and Cameron Holmes in S4 who both managed straight A grades for their Nationals.”
