Event will celebrate Eilidh’s 23rd birthday

Ladies’day for friends and family

The family and friends of Eilidh Mchugh will celebrate the student’s 23rd birthday next month with a special ladies’ day event.

Eilidh, from Hamilton, was only 22 when she lost her short battle with an aggressive form of cancer in March.

Since then, an incredible £43,000 has been raised in memory of the former Holy Cross High pupil for the Beatson Cancer Charity.

The popular student would have celebrated her 23rd birthday next month so friends and family wanted to remember her in a special way.

Eilidh’s sister Kerry spoke to the Advertiser this week. She said: “We are hosting a ladies’ lunch on Saturday, September 2.

“Eilidh would’ve been 23 on September 1, so we’re marking the occasions and all proceeds going to the Beatson. We’re hoping to announce a few projects at it too in Eilidh’s name.”

People will gather at the private event in the Clydesdale Hotel and all of the funds raised on the day will go to the Beatson.

Other fundraisers have already been a big success. More than 400 people gathered at Hamilton’s David Lloyd Centre in June to pay tribute to a ‘wonderful sister and friend’ at Eilidh’s Day.

An incredible £13,000 was raised from the charity walk and fun day – and then retired Lanarkshire businessman Les Hutchison offered to make a donation which took the sum to £30,000.

North Lanarkshire Council’s housing services team, where Eilidh’s mum Elaine works as housing head of service, also donated £1000 to the Beatson charity in memory of trainee pharmacist Eilidh.

Eilidh was nearing the end of her pre-registration year to become a pharmacist when she died suddenly on Tuesday, March 7, following a short illness.

The former Holy Cross High School dux graduated with distinction from Strathclyde University last summer.
