Cadzow Glen hit by vandalism
Community campaigners were gutted after vandals targeted the town’s Cadzow Glen.
Friends of Cadzow Glen posted on Facebook that the area had been vandalised – just one day after signs asking for the public to show a“little respect”were put up.
The group set out on a mission back in January to give the glen a facelift. Teams of volunteers meet regularly for clean-ups, filling bags of rubbish and debris.
However, last week the group posted: “Unfortunately the signs asking for a little respect for the glen lasted less than one day! Wooden posts put in yesterday as part of fence repairs were also removed and edging of mosaic was damaged. Lots of smashed glass on paths.
“Always a small number of people that spoil things for everyone. Thanks for your ongoing support for the glen. If you see vandalism taking place, please phone the Police on 101.”
Hamilton Police’s problem-solving officer, Cammy Paton, said:“I regularly patrol this area. This has resulted in me interacting with a number of those believed to be responsible for the anti-social behaviour and I have engaged with our partner agencies.
“I have also spoken to members of the public. This area will continue to be a focal point of my patrols and I would encourage anyone who wishes to speak to me about it to come into Hamilton Office, phone 101 or email me at Lanarkshirelpst Hamilton@scotland. pnn.police.uk.”
