Dynamic duo just miss out on medal at event
Emma and Caris do themselves proud in Liverpool
A young team from Motherwell’s Dynamic Gymnastics narrowly missed out on a medal at the Acrobatic and Rhythmic British Championships in Liverpool last month.
Emma Mcconville (14) and 11-yearold Caris Smith qualified for the event at the Echo Arena from July 27-30 after excelling in the Scottish Championships.
A superb routine in the women’s pairs 11-16 years category saw the pair qualify for the finals on the Sunday and they finished fourth overall in their section, missing out on a medal by 0.1 of a mark.
A club spokesperson said: “Competition was fierce but our girls held their own and achieved a tremendous result in what was their first ever British Championships.
“It was an exhausting weekend for both girls and their coach, Michelle Bone, but everyone found the experience exhilarating.
“They came back even more determined than ever to do well in future competitions, and in next year’s British Championships.
“We are all extremely proud, especially the parents and family who travelled down to support the girls for the full weekend.”
Acro coach Michelle Bone commented: “The girls did really well. They were really nervous because it was the first time they had been in an arena of that size.
“They made it through to the final, which was the goal, and their final routine was absolutely brilliant. They were a wee bit disappointed not to come away with a medal, but they were over the moon with reaching the final and their overall performance.”
