‘Missed chances cost us’

-

Motherwell boss Stephen Robertson says his side were“punished”for not taking their chances during a 2-1 defeat at home to Rangers on Sunday.

The teams were level at the interval as Ben Heneghan levelled Graham Dorrans’s early opener for the visitors.

Dorrans struck again from the spot in the second half, and ’Well passed up a number of chances to level.

Robertson said:“i am frustrated but if you don’t take your chances you don’t win football matches.

“We have created a number of chances and I think Ryan Bowman and Alex Fisher have missed two late on, and we were punished for it.

“We took the game to Rangers and we were positive. We may have had a penalty ourselves, but we lost the game on two set pieces.”

Rangers led in four minutes when from a free kick Bruno Alves and Kenny Miller set up Dorrans to smash into the net.

Louis Moult volleyed past and Josh Windass struck a post at the other end, before Craig Tanner’s cross was headed in by Heneghan in 40 minutes.

Windass struck the bar just before the break and in the second half Moult was penalised for a challenge on Fabio Cardoso, with Dorrans converting.

Bowman connected with a Chris Cadden cross only to strike the post and Wes Foderingham brilliantly stuck out a hand to divert Fisher’s late effort inches past.
