Concert survivor’s brave fundraiser
Lucy sings emotional Ariana hit
A Motherwell schoolgirl who lived through the Ariana Grande concert terror attack gave an emotional performance of‘one Last Time’ at a fundraiser she organised for those affected by the horrific event.
Lucy Haggarty (14) sang the Ariana hit on Sunday afternoon with friends in a bid to raise cash for the Manchester Emergency Fund.
The Our Lady’s High School pupil was at the concert in May with her mum Louise when she witnessed the horrendous events unfold.
Lucy says she was able to organise the event in her home town with the help of her friend Sophie Galloway, who has supported her since the incident.
Their concert and coffee day at St Bride’s Hall, in Motherwell, was a huge success and surpassed all expectations, raise £1210.
Lucy said: “I really wanted to do something for the Manchester Emergency Fund and Sophie decided that she would help me organise it.
“We had an amazing turnout and had to bring out more tables and chairs.
“The choir I sing with, Soundsational as they managed to All Stars, sang a mixture of gospel and pop songs which entertained everyone, and my school friend Michael Costello was also brilliant.
“I sang Ariana’s One Last Time with my friends from the choir, Cody Carswell and Elise Battersby, it was really emotional.
“When my mum handed me the piece of paper with the amount we had raised, I couldn’t believe it. We had hoped to raise a few hundred pounds at best.
“We would just like to thank everyone who turned up and helped. My mum was great and Sophie’s aunt Lorraine Mcgahan was also amazing. We couldn’t have done it without them.
“I still have thoughts about that day, and it will always be with me. I really just want to help in some small way.
“Being able to help organise this event has been great, and we still have a few donations left to come in.”
