Scotland to have an average house price per square metre higher than the British average of £2260.

The capital tripled (208 per cent) its house price per square metre from £808 to £2492 in the past 20 years.

Aberdeen (£2029 per m²) is the next most expensive area and then Inverurie (£1884 per m²).

Although Larkhall is the thirdin cheapest area it also appears elsewhere in the report – among the top ten locations with the biggest price increases per square metre over the last five years (2012-2017).

The average house price in Larkhall for 2017 is £128,934. That equates to a five-year rise of 16 per cent – from £924 per m² to £1071.

Figures in the report cover the 12 months to May 2017. Commuters were faced with lengthy delays this week following emergency gas repair works to a main Motherwell road.

Drivers were faced with misery on Monday morning as the eastbound carriageway of Airbles Road was shut down – causing massive knock-on effects across the area.

Frustrated motorists noticed that the road had been suddenly closed off on Sunday, following weeks of the road being down to one lane.

Work by gas network company SGN was due to finish yesterday (Wednesday, August 16).

SGN closed the road between the junction with Chestnut Grove and Adele Street while they worked on a leaking gas main.

Hannah Brett, a spokesperson for SGN, said earlier this week: “We’re carrying out emergency repairs to our gas network in Airbles Road.

“Due to the location of our gas main, we’ve needed to temporarily close the eastbound carriageway from Chestnut Grove and Adele Street to keep both motorists and our engineers safe while we work.

“There is a signed diversion in place via Hamilton Road (A723), West Hamilton Street (A721), Menteith Road, Brandon Street and Windmilhill Street, as agreed with North Lanarkshire Council.

“All being well, we hope to reopen the eastbound carriageway on Airbles Road this Wednesday.”
