Martin Canning says his Hamilton side were rewarded for their hard work in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Dundee – a situation that didn’t happen last season.

Canning compared Saturday’s win to a trip to Dens Park last August when they were frustratingly held to a 1-1 draw despite dominating.

And the gaffer said Accies on this occasion got their just desserts.

He said:“it’s a great win. The performance probably wasn’t as polished, if you like. There were a couple of mistakes and a little bit of slackness that allowed them to have opportunities, but I thought Gary Woods was excellent.

“It’s not often that you win 3-0 and your goalie will do as well as Woodsy has done – he made two or three really important saves at big moments. But overall I thought we deserved to win the game.

“The pleasing thing for me is there were times last season when we performed really well but couldn’t get the win, we couldn’t get the second goal, but we performed well enough.

“There was a game up at Dundee last season that we drew 1-1 but should have won. But I would much prefer to win a game 3-0, even though we didn’t perform as well as we did in last season’s game.

“The points are the most important thing at this stage and it’s great to get our first three on the board in our first home game.”
