Question time

-

In my line of work I find that I frequently get asked the same questions.

Below are some of the ones I get asked most often.

If you have a make up related question you would like answered please email me at laura@ lauradawsonmakeup.com.

Q.

How can I make my foundation stay on?

A.

Set with powder. You might not like the powdered finish but it’s what keeps it in place. With the natural warm temperature of your skin, plus it’s oils, your foundations needs a helping hand for longevity. The trick is to find a powder that doesn’t look too drying or mat. My favourite is MAC- Mineralise Skin Finish which leaves a beautiful silky texture.

Q.

Why doesn’t my lipstick last?

A.

If you go for a more moisturising lipstick it won’t last as long. The drier, more matte something is, the more hard wearing it is. Annoying yes, but that’s the way it works. If you prefer a softer moisturising lipstick then you can help it to last longer by setting your lips with a little base then apply a lipliner first. Apply the lipstick, blot and re apply. Lipcote is an amazing product for sealing lipstick.

Q.

What can I do to cover my dark circles?

A.

Firstly, apply some eye cream to ensure the under eye area is not too dehydrated. Then apply a peachy corrector to the under eye area and gently pat it in with your fingers. The peachy/orangey tone will counteract the blue/green undertone of the dark circles. Apply a slightly lighter concealer than your foundation over the top and set to finish.

Q.

How do I know what foundation shade is right for me?

A.

Test it in good natural light if you can. Apply a little to your jaw area, if the colour pretty much disappears then its the one for you. If you like to wear self tan regularly, you can afford to go half a shade darker.
