Band asked back to play at tattoo
Members of Stonehouse Pipe Band travelled to Liechtenstein after accepting an invitation to perform.
The band impressed so much at the Princely Liechtenstein Tattoo last year, that organisers asked them to come back again this time around.
The trip for the tattoo – held from August 31 to September 2 – came about after members travelled to Liechtenstein in 2016 in the wake of a last-minute cancellation at a tattoo in Arnhem.
Pipe Sergeant Kenneth Neilson explained:“in 2016, the band was invited to play at a tattoo in Arnhem and invested a great deal of money in tutors, equipment and travel costs which were due to be reimbursed. However, with the last-minute cancellation of the event, the band remained significantly out of pocket. Shortly afterwards the band received a late call for assistance from the Liechtenstein tattoo and a few pipers and drummers made the trip and enjoyed the event so much that when the invitation was received this year, the whole band wanted to go.”
Aside from the trip, the band has also welcomed a new Pipe Major in the shape of Graeme Bell, who has more than 20 years of experience.
The band meets on Mondays at Stonehouse Lifestyles Centre, and new members are welcome to join. A class for learners is held from 6.30 -7.30pm, and at 7.30-9.30pm for more experienced players.
