Wishaw victory sets up a table-top cracker

-

Wishaw bagged their second straight win under John Brogan’s management when they triumphed 3-2 at Lesmahagow to claim second-top spot in the Central First Division.

That sets up a table-topping clash at home to Benburb on Saturday.

Brogan (right) said:“it was a hard game, but a good start, a good three points and a good performance, so I’m delighted.”

With ’Gow fans claiming Ryan Smillie was looking suspiciously offside, he ran through on a long ball and rounded goalkeeper Daniel Tobin , with the ball falling to Michael Collander to tap home.

Lewis Mcdougall equalised from close range off a Jordan Whitefield corner, but Wishaw went 3-1 ahead at half-time, with goals from Dean Kindlan and a Paul Mcgeough penalty.

Mcdougall notched a second for ’Gow after good work by Jordan Lithgow.

Blantyre Vics’two-game unbeaten run ended with a 3-1 defeat at St Roch’s. Thorniewood United notched up their first point of the season with a 1-1 draw at home to Port Glasgow.

Port led 1-0 at half-time, but Daryl Meikle equalised midway through the second half.

Shotts Bon Accord slumped pointless to the bottom sport after losing 1-0 at home to leagueleaders Benburb.

Forth Wanderers were idle on Saturday after playing their first match in the knock-out stages of the Sectional League Cup in 30 years in midweek, but lost 5-0 at Super Premier League side Pollok.

After conceding two goals inside five minutes Forth regained composure and tried to attack, but were no match.

David Cherrie made good saves, but Pollok added three more goals.
