Funeral arranger is national finalist
A Hamilton funeral arranger has secured a top award.
Lorraine Aitken was selected from hundreds of nominees to go through to the final stages of this year’s glittering Good Funeral Awards ceremony at the Porchester Hall in London last week.
Lorraine of Young’s Independent Funeral Services, on Cadzow Street, picked up the prestigious national title of Funeral Arranger of the Year.
Young’s are renowned for creating bespoke packages, including a Star Wars themed funeral last year.
The Good Funeral Awards are now in their sixth year and recognise excellence in the world of funerals, rewarding the best funeral directors and all associated services that are involved in creating memorable funerals.
Wholly independent of the funeral industry, the awards are supported by consumer advocates the Good Funeral Guide and the Natural Death Centre.
Lorraine said: “To be nominated for a national awards was a shock, the first I knew about it was when my colleagues handed me the email telling me I had been short listed.
“As I read through the pages I soon realised that it had been written by some very special people we have had the privilege to support through their loss. My shock soon turned to pride that our work was been recognised on such a big stage!
“For those who don’t know about Young’s we are a family-run business and we try really hard to provide people with the funeral service that is above all dignified, individual and respectful of those who have been lost and left behind.
“Actually winning the award hasn’t sunk in properly yet.
“To be recognised for what I love doing is a very strange feeling.
“I’d like to thank my amazing colleagues; although it is my name on the award, we work as a team. However, most of all, I’d like to say thank you to everyone I have had the privilege of assisting during one of the most difficult periods of their lives for the trust they have shown in me and Young’s”.
