Club marks 50 years
Lanarkshire Philatelic Society celebrated their 50th anniversary last Friday evening, September 8.
Members enjoyed a dinner at the Bentley Hotel in Motherwell. It was attended by many members both former and present – including 22 past presidents, one of whom had travelled up from the south of England.
The celebration cake was cut by president Terry Woods and honorary vicepresident Sheila Sinclair, assisted by founder members Margaret Lyth and Kenneth Norris – the latter of whom has never missed a meeting in all the society’s 50 years.
Mr Woods reminded members of some of the society’s history, which had its beginnings in a member’s home and continued through various locations including Motherwell Library, St Andrew’s Church in Hamilton and the current home of Caledonian Bowling Club in Hamilton.
The president of the Association of Scottish Philatelic Societies, Richard Cuthbertson, presented his congratulations to the society for attaining 50 years – and wished every success for the future. Mrs Sinclair gave the vote of thanks.
