County golf defeat
Lanarkshire put up a brave defence of their Scottish Area Team Championship, but lost in the semi-finals to eventual winners North East Golf Association.
Lanarkshire qualified in sixth place over the 10 rounds, and beat Ayrshire 3.5/1.5 in the quarters.
However, they lost out to North East by 4-1 in the semi-final, who went on to beat Lothians in the final.
Lewis Irvine (17) from Kirkhill made an excellent debut for Lanarkshire‘a’ team by scoring level par in the qualifying rounds, scoring 70 74 against a par of 144 at the tough Newmachar Golf Complex.
The Lanarkshire team was Graham Rankin, Steven Rennie and Dominic Dougan (all Drumpellier), Gordon Yates (Colville Park), Ed Wood (Crow Wood), Lewis Irvine (Kirkhill). The team was managed by Willie Sharpe (Hamilton) with Kenny Gallacher (East Kilbride) as assistant manager.
