We tried to go at Celtic

-

Martin Canning admits his Hamilton side might have been too open as he tried to cause an upset against champions Celtic.

The Parkhead side ran riot in the first half and were 3-0 up by the interval, adding a second-half strike before Hamilton scored a consolation through Alex Gogic.

Canning said:“i was annoyed by our defending but I also thought Celtic were on a different level, I thought their movement was different class.

“They were so sharp, they were very good, they were clinical and their movement was quick.

“Defensively we can do better but I will take a little bit of responsibility for that. I tried to have a wee go and play with the two up top to see if we could try to impose ourselves in our own home game.

“The boys had been on good form and I wanted to try and give us the opportunity to see if we could take the game to Celtic. We learned pretty quickly that it wasn’t going to be the case, they were bang at it.

“Maybe in hindsight we should have done what we did in the second half, closing it up and being difficult to break down and play through.

“It’s not overly pretty to look at, and from our point of view we don’t want to play like that but it was effective.

“I think when you’re playing against Celtic and they’re in that type of form you’ve got to do it.”
