Community Links (South Lanarkshire) held their 15th annual general meeting at St John Oglivie High School last week.
Established in 2002, they are a Lanarkshire-based charity that help people create long-lasting changes in their areas.
Over 80 people attended the AGM, allowing the organisation to showcase the success of their projects as well as recognising and celebrating the achievements of volunteers. Some of the most successful projects include Hillhouse Community Hub and Fairhill Community Cafe.
Talented dancers from the school opened the event, performing a piece which fitted in notably well with the theme of ‘health and wellbeing’.
Paul Hayward, social marketing officer for Community Links, said: “It is wonderful to see so many people attend the event and support their local community. The theme of the event was ‘health and wellbeing’ and living our lives mindfully.
“We continue to work hard to provide opportunities for local people to get more involved in local community projects and services which aim to improve residents’ quality of life and life outcomes.
“This work, of course, wouldn’t be possible if not for our dedicated volunteers. Without their commitment, the successful delivery of these projects would not be possible, so it’s only fair to recognise this hard work through our volunteer celebrations.”
The 15th volunteer celebrations were presented by Martin Stepek, one of Britain’s most highly regarded teachers of ‘mindfulness.’ He delivered a ‘mindfulness’ session with guests and presented volunteers with ‘health and wellbeing’ goodie bags as a thank you for their hard work.
Community Links would like to thank St John Oglivie High for their hospitality, use of the venue and friendly staff.
They would also like to thank the sponsors of the event: Kilbryde & Co, Slater’s Menswear, Keegan and Pennykid Insurance Brokers Ltd, Salus Occupational Health and Safety, Dunns Food and Drink, Buchanan Mcpherson Ltd, Prudent Options Financial Adviser and Airspace East Kilbride.
