Accies pay penalty for poor start against Hearts

Rakish Bingham says Hamilton can be a good team, but only if they cut out mistakes.

A horror show in the opening 23 minutes saw Hearts dominate and race into a 2-0 lead before Hamilton got going, a situation that Hamilton didn’t recover from despite their efforts in the second half.

Ali Crawford was denied a spectacula­r free-kick equaliser by a superb save from Jon Mclaughlin, while referee Bobby Madden turned down strong penalty claims when Prince Buaben appeared to haul David Templeton down inside the box.

However, Hearts held on for the points and Bingham said that false start to the game killed Accies’ chances.

He said: “For the first 15-20 minutes we made it hard for ourselves so I think that has cost us the game.

“I thought we responded brilliantl­y as a team, the goal before half-time gave us a little bit of momentum going into the second half, and we had a right go.

“You can only take the positives out of the game and if there were any I’d say it was the second-half performanc­e.

“We didn’t do ourselves any favours with the start we had, but the response from the lads and the desire to try and get back into the game was second to none.

“I’m sure the manager can be pleased with that side of things, but we can’t afford to start like that against teams in this league, especially a team like Hearts.
