Writers take step back in time with Hamilton history book
Budding writers with an interest in Hamilton’s history have released their own book.
Writers at Low Parks Museum secured funding from South Lanarkshire Council to put together a book of short stories and poems in celebration of the museum’s 50th anniversary this year.
Janette Broadley, Janette Cameron and her brother John Hutton, Wilma Bolton and Hazel Brown joined together to pen the stories, poems, memories and facts about Hamilton’s history.
They met in the museum every Wednesday for 11 weeks and enjoyed researching the town’s history.
Hazel said:“we have enjoyed the project so much that we plan to stay together as a writing group and pursue further projects in the future. We have all learned so much about the history of Hamilton and we hope you enjoy reading our stories, poems, memories and facts that we have put together in this anthology.
“We all give a huge thanks to the wonderful and willing and enthusiastic staff at the Town House library who helped us with our research.
“We could not have managed it without you. Thanks also to the staff at the Low Parks Museum.
“We went on the first tour of the mausoleum this year and the trip encouraged us to write material for the book.”
The book will be distributed to high schools and libraries throughout the area. Chatelherault and the University of the West of Scotland will also be given an copy for their libraries.
