HAMILTON PARK Charity day at races cancelled

Course was waterlogged

Hamilton Park Racecourse were forced to cancel the final event of the 2017 season on Monday because of bad weather.

The Les Hoey MBE Dreammaker Foundation Family Raceday was due to bring the curtain down on the summer’s busy calendar of events.

However following considerable rainfall in recent weeks and a downpour over the weekend, the event had to be regrettably abandoned.

The heavy rain resulted in areas of false ground on the course and, for that reason, it would be unsafe for racing to take place on Monday, September 25.

Sulekha Varma, racing manager at Hamilton Park, said: “It is hugely disappointing to lose our final fixture of the season.

“It has been a challenging year in terms of rainfall, with rain affecting the majority of the days.

“Unfortunately, this time, the rain was more than the track could handle and we have been left with areas of false ground, rendering the course unsafe for racing.

“I would like to thank all those who have supported Hamilton Park through the 2017 season and hope that we will be able to welcome everyone back when our 2018 season begins on May 6, 2018.”

The Les Hoey MBE Dreammaker Foundation Family Raceday was set to support the Lanarkshire charity that helps make dreams come true for sick children.

And the highlight of the racing would have been the £26,000 EBF Stallions Clyde Conditions Stake.

Customers with advance tickets are entitled to full refunds by contacting the racecourse office on enquires@hamilton-park. co.uk.

Alternatively, tickets will be valid for the opening family day on Sunday, May 6, 2018.
