‘Take charge of your own care’
Free event featuring various guest speakers will show you how
They will be at the Neilsland Road facility on Tuesday, October 3, from 1pm to 4pm.
And the theme for the day will be the ‘Mystery of Self Directed Support’ as a number of guest speakers are set to deliver talks on the subject.
Self-directed support allows people with various needs to take charge of their care and promote independent living; for instance, deciding how the money for their care should be best spent for their individual needs.
It gives people an allocation of money from social work services and the network are a group of people residing in South Lanarkshire (in receipt of or who have an interest in self-directed support) who meet to share concerns, ideas, learn from each other’s experiences and help solve problems by working together.
Audit Scotland will give a presentation. And Independent Living Fund Scotland will deliver a talk on support available for young disabled people aged 16 to 21 at a transitional stage in their lives.
The Scottish Government Health and Social Care Directorate will be there with a presentation on the ‘Policy and Current Landscape’ of self-directed support.
South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership will discuss the implementation of self-directed support in the region.
Representatives from the Minority Ethnic Carers of People Project will talk about their Legal Rights Project and issues they support people with.
And the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman will give a presentation on the new statutory social work complaints process.
