The University of the West of Scotland (UWS) is celebrating climbing into the top 100 of The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide for the first time.

UWS – which has a campus in Hamilton – placed at number 100 in the latest edition of the league table. This is an increase of six places from last year.

And it is also ranked in the top three of Scottish universities for‘teaching excellence’.

Professor Craig Mahoney, principal and vice-chancellor of UWS, said:“this is fantastic news and is yet another example of the significant progress we are making and of the hard work and commitment of colleagues across UWS.

“Our strong ranking for teaching excellence is particularly pleasing and is testament to our strong commitment to providing student-centred, personalised and distinctive learning and teaching experiences underpinned by professionally relevant research, knowledge exchange and enterprise.”

Earlier in the year, UWS was also ranked in the world’s top 200 universities under 50 years in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings 2017.

Work on the new £85million UWS campus at Hamilton International Technology Park is well under way and the first students are set to move in by 2018. The 38-acre facility is just two miles from the existing site in Hamilton’s Almada Street and is estimated to be worth at least £443million to the local economy over the next 25 years.
