WRI President Mary Reid welcomed a good turnout to the first meeting. Speaker for the evening was David Atkins who gave a film show and took members ‘Doon The Watter’ bringing back many memories of our childhood when it was a sail down the Clyde as part of your summer holiday. The competitio­n winners were: A holiday souvenir – 1st, Irene Burton; 2nd, Margaret Hamilton. Humorous postcard – 1st, Janette Smith; 2nd, Mary Reid. Our next meeting is on Thursday, October 5 when Liz Macintyre will tell us about ‘Nan’s Story’. This month’s competitio­n is three plain scones and a knitted tammy. Church Chapelton Parish Church are hosting a Table Top Sale on Saturday, October 7, from 10am to 1pm. Please phone Valerie Maclean on (01357) 300117 or Elizabeth Wallace on (01357) 300442 to book a table (£10 per table). Donations of items for the church table can be handed in to the church hall on Friday, October 6 at 3pm. Rolls, tea and coffee will be on sale. Entry £1. Pub quiz Last week eight teams crammed into the pub and at the end of the evening the top two contenders could not be separated so the spoils were shared. At half-time it was tight at the top with only three points separating the top three with, for one night only, Skotsky Czech-mates in the lead on 28 points, Young Mcmorrins in second on 27 points and The Wright Stuff in third on 26 points. Final round-up which, as tradition dictates, comes in reverse order; in eighth place we had The Coopers, seventh was the aptly-named Clueless, sixth was Only Fools & Horses, fifth goes to Coisty & Hateley.
