Arty Millie walks away with badge of honour

An Uddingston schoolgirl has been named as one of 11 winners in a Uk-wide design competitio­n.

Millie Johnstone (9) of Aitkenhead Primary entered the WOW badge design competitio­n from Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking.

WOW is Living Streets’year-round walk-to-school challenge which sees children who walk to school at least once a week rewarded with collectabl­e badges each month.

This year’s WOW theme is‘walk the Americas’and Millie’s moose design was inspired by the Canadian wilderness.

Her effort was chosen for the September badge and at the end of this month, pupils in over 2000 schools across Scotland, England and Wales will be rewarded with Millie’s badge.

Strider, the Living Streets mascot, presented Millie with her prize, which included a large-scale version of her badge, in front of her friends and family in a special assembly.

Badge design winner Millie said: “I am really, really happy to win the competitio­n and I can’t wait to see everyone at my school wearing my badge.”

Alison Sommervill­e, head teacher at Aitkenhead Primary School added: “Everyone at Aitkenhead Primary is extremely proud of Millie’s achievemen­t.

“The pupils have been walking, cycling, scooting and using Park and Stride throughout September so they can be rewarded with Millie’s badge.”
