Albert move into second with late clincher

-

Royal Albert snatched a 1-0 win at home to Ashfield, moving them into second place in the Central Second Division.

David Hamilton’s strike seven minutes from time gave Albert their fourth win in six games.

Manager Jamie Nesbitt (right) said:“it’s a long while since we enjoyed our lofty position, but we’re not getting ahead of ourselves.”

Club secretary Peter Higgins hopes this good form run will have a spin-off by encouraging fans to support their 100 Club initiative. Interested fans can contact him on 07719 348581.

Bellshill Athletic toppled recent leaders Carluke Rovers 4-2 to move into third slot, one point behind Albert.

Richard Kane scored from a half-volley, then skipped past the full-back to slip the ball past the keeper for a 2-0 half-time lead.

Mark Cassidy pulled one back in 57 minutes, and Greg Kane levelled the score six minutes later.

Paul Brennan fired Bellshill in front again and David Shaw wrapped up the scoring from the spot.

Lanark United included former player Cammy Lawson in the side that draw 2-2 at St Anthony’s.

Lawson signed on Friday from Cambuslang Rangers and played his part in a first-minute goal when his free kick was played into the box by Ronan Kearney for Stephen Kane to net.

Chris Gordon equalised five minutes later, but Stuart Annetts conceded an own-goal in 33 minutes.

Shaun Gallagher turned a Kearney cross just wide of goal before steering the ball into the net for a stoppage-time equaliser.

United are now at home to league-leaders Gartcairn, led by former Blantyre Vics boss Davie Greig.

United have released midfielder Jason Mccrorie and winger Connor Stewart.
