Greg Docherty says Hamilton’s management team WARNED them of the threat St Johnstone posed, but the players didn’t listen.

Steven Maclean and Murray Davidson struck in the second half to cancel out Docherty’s wonder-strike and he says boss Martin Canning isn’t to blame for the defeat in Perth.

He said: “We know St Johnstone; the gaffer covered it, it’s not his fault, it’s completely down to us.

“They prepared us brilliantly, we knew on Friday how much St Johnstone cross the ball into the box and that’s exactly what they did.

“They put in an average of 15-20 crosses in a game, we were well aware of that, we were sent the clips, and that shouldn’t be happening.

“We have ourselves to blame, we’ve let the fans down. We were in a great position and it was a hugely disappointing afternoon, particularly from being 1-0 ahead.

“It was a hugely disappointing day and a very down dressing room, which is not like us, but I think after we started so well in the first half it was the same old story where we didn’t kill them off.

“I think we should have been 2-0 or 3-0 up at half-time and that’s our own downfall, we’ve only got ourselves to blame.”

Ten-man Hamilton were dealt a real hammer blow when St Johnstone fought back from a goal down at Mcdiarmid Park, and while Darian Mackinnon’s stoppagetime red card didn’t affect the outcome of this game, he will be a huge loss for the clash with Rangers tomorrow (Friday).
