‘We’ve named our captains’
And UNICEF collection is success
Pupils and staff at St John’s Primary have certainly been busy since the start of the new term.
The school has appointed its house captains and vice captains for the 2017/18 session, launched a UNICEF collection – and even found the time to star in the Advertiser’s jokes feature (see page 10).
After impressive speeches, the captains and vice captains are: Arran house – Noah Rogers, captain; Emma Coulter, vice captain. Iona house – Eilidh Prentice, captain; Christina Melissourgou-syka, vice captain. Seil house – Cameron Baird, captain; Mia Ducey, vice captain. Skye house – Beth Fallow, captain; Holly Hally Burton, vice captain.
The new leadership team have already been very busy in their new roles, and staff are “confident that they will represent their respective houses very effectively in the coming year”.
The school as also been gathering in old or unwanted shoes in a bid to raise money for UNICEF.
The Shoeshare campaign is run in partnership with UNICEF and Clarks, and aims to send shoes for re-use in developing countries.
In addition, for every tonne of shoes collected, a donation is made to UNICEF which goes towards education programmes around the world.
St John’s collection comes as pupils learn about Children’s Rights, and the Rights Respecting School Committee would like to thank everyone who has brought in shoes.
