Top tips to look tip-top

-

If I had a pound for every time I was asked for some ‘tricks of the trade’ or top tips for looking fab ... I probably wouldn’t need to work as a make-up artist.

So here’s my top five picks of some simple steps you can take to help you look and feel your very best.

Hydrate your skin

Hydrate your skin from within by drinking lots of water. I can tell within two seconds of looking at someone if they drink enough water.

Or, they may drink enough water but smoke, use sun beds or enjoy their glass of vino.

If you do, you have to make up for it or your skin will give it all away.

It’s difficult sometimes, but these factors really determine to how your skin looks.

Also, make sure you moisturise and ditch the facial wipes.

Cut down on facial scrubs

Once a week is more than enough if you feel you really must.

Believe it or not they do more harm than good. They feel great but leave your skin much more open to bacteria and exposed to UV.

It sounds a bit drastic I know, but I have studied this topic a great length.

UV exposure is what ages our skin so we want to shelter from it, not scrub our skin and offer it up to the radiation. You might be thinking – but we hardly see any sun in Scotland?!

You don’t have to see it or feel it, it’s there. The damaging ray is present even on days that are overcast.

For fine lines and wrinkles

Massage your skin with Bio Oil. It’s a little miracle in a bottle.

You can massage your entire face or just the eye area.

Use your middle fingers and massage all around the eyes area for a few minutes.

It really smooths and softens the area and it’s great for the morning after a late night!

Less is so much more with your foundation.

Don’t overdo it because you will just see texture on the skin and not a healthy glow, which is what you are actually trying to achieve.

Only apply more where you need it and not all over.

If you have a more mature skin, go tinted moisturiser, BB cream or a very sheer foundation.

To combat dark circles

Use a colour correcting concealer which has a peachy tone.

I’m seeing a lot of very light and bright under the eyes at the moment, and trust me, it doesn’t look good.

Keep the tones matching your skin or slightly lighter under the eyes, not three shades lighter.
