Strathaven

Strathaven Camera Club’s new season has started. A full programme of events, competitions and tutorial evenings is underway. Meetings are in the Rankin Church hall at 7.30pm. On Thursday, November 16, the club is planning to visit Hamilton Camera Club to enjoy a presentation by the landscape photographer Colin Prior. New members can join with a discounted membership until January 2018.

This exciting and fun event is being held in conjunction with Mctears Auctioneers this Sunday from noon until 4pm in the Strathaven Hotel. Bring your treasured antique (or that mystery object you found in the attic!) and hear the professional assessor’s identification and valuation. There is a charge of £5 per item for this service. All proceeds will go to The Strathaven John Hastie Museum Trust (Scottish Charity SC 043189).

Seven teams assembled for Euan’s weekly quiz fest. A dominant firsthalf performance brought out the fateful phrase ‘it’s yours to lose’ as Eleven Chinese Gentlemen on 37 points were 10 points ahead of the chasing pack. When the final whistle blew, were they caught? The simple answer was no – they even extended their lead and took the cash with a total of 73 points. In second place, trailing by 14 points, were Infamous 3.5, then Bar Lizards, Young Mcmorrins, Wright Stuff, Banshee and Nipping at the Heels, Triple Alison. Surely next week someone can topple the brothers Kirkwood-andricky coalition?
