A dedicated Blantyre fundraiser is hoping to smash the £20,000 mark with an event at the Miners’welfare later this month.

Lorraine Andrew has spent the past few years throwing herself into various challenges to raise funds for a wide range of charities, and has so far raised a total of £19,000.

Most recently, the 60-yearold completed a zip slide across the River Clyde in aid of Epilepsy Scotland.

She was joined by her son, Ryan Andrew (27), and her friend Margaret Kelly (70), with the trio raising £400.

Lorraine is now preparing to host a fundraiser for Cancer Research at Blantyre Miners’ Welfare on Sunday, October 29, between 1pm and 6pm.

The day will be in tribute to her nephew, Allan Andrew (46), who passed away following a battle with oesophageal cancer this year.

As reported in the Advertiser, Allan’s friends at Blantyre Bowling Club raised over £22,000 for Macmillan Cancer Care following the former president’s diagnosis.

A team climbed Ben Nevis in an event dubbed Nevis for Elvis, in a nod to Allan’s nickname. Lorraine hopes her next fundraiser will be a fitting tribute to her nephew and said: “I have raised £19,000 for charities over the years thanks to the support of all my family and friends.

“They must be as mad as me to put up with me!

“But I enjoy the challenges and I appreciate the support I get for them.

“The fundraiser on October 29 will be a cabaret day with lots of entertainment, so I will be aiming to raise enough on the day to get over that £20,000 mark.

“The day will raise funds for Cancer Research in memory of Allan, and I hope we raise a lot of money for the charity and everyone has a great time.”
