Burst water main hits 150 homes

- Stefanie Mccourt

Around 150 Stonehouse homes experienced problems with their water supply last week after a water main burst.

Scottish Water teams were called to deal with the problem on Sidehead Road last Wednesday (September 27) morning.

Locals complained of water that was “brown and foamy”, “cloudy” and of “weak” pressure on social media.

One said: “I noticed the water pressure to be really weak today. Assuming this is the same for most of us.

“Good news though, there was a Scottish Water van on Sidehead Road around 7.40 this morning and a big puddle next to it. Fingers crossed.”

Another added: “Burst water main/pipe on Sidehead Road this morning. Top and bottom end of the town seem to be affected with dirty/cloudy water.”

It comes after supplies to 20 homes were affected and the Lifestyles centre forced to close in August following a burst in the village.

Scottish Water told the Advertiser then that an investigation into the cause of the burst would be carried out.

In response to the latest burst, they said: “Scottish Water attended a burst water main in Sidehead Road, Stonehouse yesterday (September 27).

“The burst caused a loss of normal water supply, low water pressure or discoloured water to up to about 150 properties in the area from about 7am.

“The burst main was repaired and normal water supplies were restored to most affected properties by mid-afternoon.

“Scottish Water apologises for any inconvenience to affected customers and thanks them for their patience and understanding.”
