Council investing in park repairs

South Lanarkshir­e Council is continuing to carry out repairs and improvemen­t works at Alexander Hamilton Memorial Park.

The play area carpet, which had been set alight, has been replaced, while new bins have been provided and the boundary fence repaired.

New speed limit signs have also been erected following concerns from locals.

Alistair Mckinnon, head of Facilities, Waste and Grounds Services, said: “We are continuing to carry out work at Stonehouse Park.

“We have recently replaced a damaged carpet and a nest swing, replaced damaged bins and repaired the boundary fence.

“Additional­ly new 5mph and children playing been installed.

“New adult fitness equipment has also been erected in the park.”

The work has been welcomed by Councillor Margaret Cooper, who had been keeping constituen­ts updated on the work via Facebook. She said: “Some time raised the issue of

“I am delighted to say as a ‘first measure’ new 5mph signs have been installed. Please assist by adhering to the speed limit.

“The new replacemen­t carpet on the area that was burnt out has now been replaced.

“The rubber cup swing will be installed once the glue is fully dry on the carpet.

“I also asked SLC Land Services to renew and repair the fence between the residentia­l home and the park road.

“This is now in progress, they have also replaced the bin at the top corner of the road next to the seat as the old one was broken.”
