Q. How do I stop or fix caking/creasing from concealer under the eyes?

Sometimes you do need quite a bit of product to conceal or colour correct the under eye area and that can mean some product build up and caking unfortunately.

The best way to combat this is to put on a good amount of eye cream before application. Not eye gel, but a good hydrating cream.

My favourite is Bobbi Brown’s Hydrating eye cream. There are two to choose from but I prefer the richer one.

Apply the product of your choice for concealing, then set with powder.

If you find that after a while it starts to crease/ cake, dab a drop of Jojoba oil over the area. It’s wax based so it sets when it cools down.

Q. I have acne and the only way I seem to be able to cover it is to wear thick foundation that I actually hate, help?

You don’t have to take that action to cover any blemishes you have.

I am certainly not a big fan of heavy foundation – it looks mask-like and plastic.

To create beautiful looking skin, you don’t have to pile it on, regardless of what is underneath.

Pick a foundation that suits you skin type. You can have acne but your skin can also feel very dehydrated and dry. Acne doesn’t always equal oiliness and a lot can depend on what skin care you’re using.

Ideally, hydrate your skin as much as you can and don’t try to strip the oil away – dull and dehydrated acnified skin is so much harder to cover than bright, hydrated skin.

Apply your foundation using a beauty blender or rounded top foundation brush.

At this stage your blemishes will still be visible, but that is OK.

The next step is to take a LIP brush – not a concealer brush – and fine point conceal the blemishes.

Choose a concealer the same colour as your base and work around each one, applying the product directly on to the blemish.

It will take a bit of time but you will speed up with practice. Finally set with powder.

By using this technique, the overall look will be so much more natural.
