Brave Blantyre duo get chance to meet hero Conor in Glasgow
A pair of Blantyre boys revelled in the chance to meet the ‘Notorious’ Conor Mcgregor.
The UFC lightweight champion hosted ‘An Evening With...’ event at Glasgow’s Armadillo and welcomed a group of youngsters from Lanarkshire charity Les Hoey MBE Dreammaker Foundation backstage.
The group organises celebrity meet and greets and days out for children facing life-limiting conditions — and charity champ Les invited Darren Valentine and Dylan Hawkins along.
Cancer patient Darren (16) is being treated at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, while Dylan (15) is in remission from leukaemia.
The lads enjoyed great seats to catch the show and got to meet the Irish UFC superstar in person afterwards.
Les said: “It’s a pleasure to take the kids to meet superstars like Conor. It gives them something to look forward to during hard times.
“To see their faces when they met him makes everything the foundation does worthwhile.”
Meanwhile, Les was over-the-moon after a star-studded charity ball raised more than £31,000 for the foundation.
It came after months of planning for Les, along with his charity coordinator, Angela Jamieson Cook, assistant Laura Cochrane and countless other volunteers.
At the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow, family and friends of the charity were joined by stars such as hosts Still Game’s Jane Mccarry and Mark Cox — otherwise known as Isa and Tam.
Youngsters also had the chance to meet singer Scott Peden, X Factor’s Sam Callaghan, former footballer Jose Quitongo and his son Jai as well as Scottish actor Gary Hollywood.
Les said: “What a night. Everyone seemed to be having a ball. The work the team put in really paid off. I can’t thank everyone enough for their generosity and support.
“The kids and their families deserve to make memories and thanks to these donations we can continue to help make them smile.”
