AC­TIV­I­TIES’ DAY Gram­mar girls get sports active

Fit­ness work­shop and dance ex­pe­ri­ence

Young­sters at Hamil­ton Gram­mar School par­tic­i­pated in a range of work­shops as part of Active Girls’ Day last Fri­day.

The event took place as part of Scot­tish Women and Girls in Sport Week.

Co-or­di­nated by the Scot­tish Gov­ern­ment, it aims to in­crease par­tic­i­pa­tion in sport and phys­i­cal ac­tiv­ity among women and girls.

A school spokes­woman said: “We would like to make a spe­cial thanks to Fiona Robert­son – a Com­mon­wealth ath­lete – for lead­ing our girls through a fan­tas­tic fit­ness work­shop.

“Our dance lead­ers, Caro­line and Jodie, from West Col­lege Scot­land also de­liv­ered an in­cred­i­ble dance ex­pe­ri­ence for our pupils.

“Thank you also to South La­nark­shire Leisure and Cul­ture for pro­vid­ing a free fit­ness pass to all pupils who took part.

“As a com­mu­nity, we are ea­ger to en­hance the num­ber op­por­tu­ni­ties for girls and young women in PE, sport and phys­i­cal ac­tiv­ity.”

Active Girls’ Day is a chance to cel­e­brate all the amaz­ing work that goes on across the coun­try.

Events are held in schools across Scot­land and 120 sec­ond-year girls at Hamil­ton Gram­mar par­tic­i­pated in net­ball, dance, fit­ness, a body image work­shop work­shop.
