No delusions, Idlewild star Roddy is on the road

- Jonathan Geddes

Idlewild frontman Roddy Woomble will bring his latest solo album to Airdrie later this month.

The singer-songwriter will be at Airdrie Town Hall on Friday, October 27,

He recently released his latest solo album, The Deluder, and will be playing tracks from it and from throughout his back catalogue.

The new album touches upon Roddy turning 40, the emphasis placed on people aging, looking back over his life and the choices he has made along the way.

He said: “The significance (of turning 40) is either there or not, it depends on your circumstance and how much time, thought, and angst you care to put into it. “The Deluder’ might be some sort of reaction, maybe justification, in the context of my life, my relationships, my choices...”

After Idlewild’s 2015 album Everything Ever Written, the band were set on writing and recording another album straight away, and they started that process off.

However, everyone’s life took over in one way or another and they decided to take a break from a new record for the time being, leading Roddy to focus again on his solo career. Up in the Hebrides, with winter approaching Roddy decided to start with another sort of record, and the songs eventually became his most personal, introspective album.

Working mainly with Andrew Mitchell (guitar and bass) Danny Grant (drums, programming) and Luciano Rossi (piano, keyboards, bass) over the winter of 2016/17 in Edinburgh, London and the Isle of Mull he recorded and mixed the album The Deluder.

The record was produced and performed by the four of them, with contributions with other long standing collaborators Hannah Fisher (violin & vocals) and Sorren Maclean (guitar).

As frontman of Scottish indie rock band Idlewild, Roddy has notched up eight acclaimed albums and three compilations, two of which charted in the UK top ten.

They have released 12 UK top 40 singles and have toured throughout the world, as a headline act, and also as support to REM, U2, Pearl Jam and the Rolling Stones amongst others.

Tickets for the Roddy Woomble gig are priced at £15 and the show will start at 7.30pm.
