Toy appeal 2017’s off to racing start

- Leona Greenan

The Advertiser’s Christmas Toy Appeal kicked off with a bang last week and we’ve already had dozens of people keen to back our 2017 campaign.

From churches, organisations, businesses, community groups and individuals, we’re astounded by the level of support for disadvantaged children across South Lanarkshire.

Working in conjunction with The Salvation Army’s Hamilton branch and our friends at South Lanarkshire Council’s social work department, we aim to bring some Christmas cheer to needy children this December 25 – children who may wake up to little or nothing on Christmas morning without our appeal.

But with your donations we can make sure that doesn’t happen!

Advertiser reporter Leona Greenan, who co-ordinates the toy appeal, said: “It really is easy to get on board. All you need to do is pick up a brand new toy or gift for a child aged from newborn to 16 the next time you’re out at the shops or doing a little online retail therapy from your own home.

“Then just pop along to the Advertiser office, Press Buildings, Campbell Street, Hamilton, weekdays between 9am and 1pm, and drop it off.

“Alternatively, pop in to the Salvation Army Hall, Burnblea Street, Hamilton, with a donation. They will welcome you Monday to Friday between 10am and noon.

“If you are in the Larkhall area, donations can be handed in to the Happy Feet Nursery at Claude Street, Larkhall.”
