Eilidh’s fund has reached staggering £60,000 now

-

Over £60,000 has been raised in memory of a Hamilton student who lost her battle to cancer only eight months ago.

Eilidh Mchugh passed away in March after a short battle with an aggressive and rare form of cancer.

The 22-year-old was nearing the end of her pre-registration year to secure her dream job as a pharmacist when she lost her fight.

Friends and family since set up a fundraising page for the Beatson Cancer Charity, who cared for Eilidh at the time, which this week hit a milestone mark of £60,000.

Lots of fundraisers have been organised over the past few months for Eilidh’s fund, such as 10km runs, fun days, sponsored cycles, a ladies’ lunch and various other different events.

Eilidh’s high school Holy Cross have also contributed to the fundraising and even named a prize award after her.

Head teacher Brian Reilly said: “It was my honour as head teacher to establish this new award, which will be awarded on an annual basis for academic and wider achievement.

“When we – the staff, current and former students of Holy Cross High School – learned of Eilidh’s story there was a determination to acknowledge and honour one of our star pupils who exhibited all of the talents of being academic, athletic and caring for those around her.”

Eilidh’s sister Kerry Mchugh said that the family not believe how much has been raised.

She said: “I would just say, we as a family continue to be amazed and completely overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity shown to raising money and remembering Eilidh.

“We can’t put into words how much it means to us and we hope to do amazing things with the funds raised in Eilidh’s memory.”

Eilidh’s fund is currently sitting at £60,977 and you can still make a donation at www. beatsontributefund.org/fund/ Eilidhs%20fund.

We hope to do amazing things with the funds raised . . . Sister, Kerry
