Winning competition could change Stephanie’s life

- Leona Greenan

A Hamilton indie singer is urging the public to vote for her in a competition that could change her life.

Stephanie Cheape has been chosen as one of the 10 top finalists in a nationwide poll organised by SSE and Capital Scotland.

Currently unsigned, she has played at venues like The Garage, The Record Factory and the main stage at Stereofunk.

The winner of the overall competition will have the opportunity to open the SSE Scottish Music Awards in aid of Nordoff Robbins Scotland, which this year will also feature performances by Emeli Sandé and Lewis Capaldi.

But first, a panel have selected the ten finalists and now it’s up to the public to decide which three will perform before the judges and be one step closer to making their dreams a reality. Stephanie, a former pupil at Hamilton Grammar, said: “Just one lucky winner will win this fantastic opportunity, for some incredible exposure to the people who matter.

“We would love this chance as it’s the perfect platform to be heard by those who are influential in this industry and an amazing avenue to show people exactly what we can do, and indeed to represent the majority of those other artists who are trying to be heard now.”

Stephanie’s band is made up of Don Wilson on drums, lead guitarist Johnny Queen and bassist Garry Aird.

The overall winner will also get to work with a top producer and get the chance to release a single.

Votes are now being exclusively on Twitter.

Just tweet using the hashtag #Ssespotlight as well as the hashtag of the artist you want to win.

The final three will go head-to-head in a live performance at Saint Lukes, in front of a panel of industry judges. collected
