There is always light in the darkness

-

I have to choose my words carefully this time of year. I know it’s called Autumn but in America, where I grew up, we say Fall.

It’s the season when the leaves turn colour and the air is crisp, bringing frost in the morning.

I think Fall is a pretty good word, and one that describes the events of the season well: the leaves fall, the lights fall, the sun falls earlier each day.

But, all too often, our mood falls as well and with the lack of sunlight we can all get a bit depressed, especially after the holidays have come and gone. What does it all mean?

The writer of Ecclesiastes penned his now famous words,“for everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born and a time to die, etc.”

It was his way of saying that life swings back and forth in natural cycles and that everything is temporary, except for one: God.

God never falls, and God never fails either.

So, as the dark months grow upon us and the days become shorter, remember that it won’t last forever and that there is one light that shines in the darkness, a light that will never be overcome, the light of Jesus Christ, the one who is the same, yesterday, today and forever.

Look for the light and find strength each day, Amen.
