Man denies police cell faeces charge

officers at an address on Kenilworth Crescent in Hamilton on Friday, November 3.

He was also accused of behaving in a threatenin­g or abusive manner by repeatedly shouting, swearing, uttering offensive remarks and threats of violence at Hamilton Police Office on Saturday, November 4, and of assaulting PC Steven Parkinson and attempting to butt him on the head. Laughlin further denied resisting, obstructin­g or hindering PC Parkinson and PC Sharon Murdoch and struggling violently with them at the station.

He also pleaded not guilty to urinating and defecating on the floor of a cell and smearing the faeces on the wall, floor, observatio­n window and himself, and then urinating on the observatio­n window.

Laughlin was charged with committing the alleged offences while on bail.

The court adjourned the case for trial until Friday, December 1, with an intermedia­te diet to be held on Monday, November 20.

Sheriff Brown refused Laughlin bail and ordered that he be detained in custody meantime.
