Junior Football Round-up Wishaw progress in ‘Scottish’

-

Wishaw made Saturday’s replay run to Gorebridge a rewarding one by beating East Premier League side Arniston Rangers 3-2 to clinch a place in the Scottish Cup third round.

Vinnie Mcguire opened the scoring from the penalty spot a minute into the second half, with Arniston levelling – also from the spot – in 63 minutes.

Wishaw then scored twice within a minute to go 3-1 up in 80 minutes, with Mcguire slotting in his second penalty before Ross Mcgeachie headed in a Dan Kindlan cross.

Arniston hit a last-minute goal, but Wishaw held out.

Manager John Brogan said: “We played really well and felt it was easier than the home tie. We totally dominated the game.”

Arthurlie v Lesmahagow and Forth Wanderers v Irvine Vics ties were called off, and will be played this weekend.

Wishaw will turn their attention to the New Coin Holdings West of Scotland Cup this Saturday when they face Central District Two side Vale of Clyde.

The away tie, at Fullarton Park, kicks off at 2pm.
